Root Canal Treatment

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment allows a dentist to save your tooth rather than extract it. It involves the removal of the tooths natural internal tissue down to its roots. The tooth is then filled and solidified meaning it can be used just like a healthy tooth.

Are root canals painful?

It is normal for patients to experience discomfort in the days following treatment however this can usually be settled with the use of regular painkillers.

During treatment it is unlikely that you'll experience any pain as we use a local anaesthetic to numb the area surrounding your tooth..

Do I need root canal treatment?

If you are suffering from any of the following symptoms then it is worth making an appointment to have it checked out. Whilst the following symptoms do not necessarily mean you require root canal treatment they usually mean that something is wrong.

  • Gum swelling or tenderness

  • Pain in the tooth or jaw bone

  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold liquids or food

  • Discoloured tooth

  • Constant bad taste in the mouth
